You have to wash the hands when washing the arms in wudoo’

What is the ruling on a person who washes his arm from the wrist to the elbow, without washing his hand, thinking that washing it at the beginning of wudoo’ is sufficient? Does he have to repeat his wudoo’?

It is not sufficient in wudoo’ to limit oneself to washing the forearm only, without washing the palm. When you have finished washing the face, you start by washing the two hands, then wash each arm from the fingertips to the elbows. If you washed them before you washed your face, the first washing is Sunnah, but washing them after washing the face is fard (obligatory). Whoever only washes the arms between the wrists and elbows has not completed the obligatory action that is required of him, so he has to repeat his wudoo’ after he finishes it, or he has to wash the parts he has omitted, if he did wudoo’ recently, so he has to wash his two hands and what comes after that.

What is the ruling on doing wudoo’ with hot water?

Praise be to Allaah. There is nothing wrong with that, but if the water is extremely hot, is OK but it is makrooh, because it may harm the skin by burning it and causing pain. There was a dispute long ago about whether heated water would remove impurity or not. The correct view is that it does remove impurity, and heated water is a necessity in cold countries, but it is makrooh if it is heated by using fuel that is impure (naajis). And Allaah knows best.

Rinsing the nose in wudoo’ is obligatory

I did wudoo’ for prayer, and during the prayer I remembered that I had not rinsed my nose. What is the ruling concerning my wudoo’ and my prayer in this case?

Rinsing the nose in wudoo’ is obligatory, because it is proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did this and said: “Whoever does wudoo’, let him rinse his nose.” Whoever does not rinse his nose, his wudoo’ is not valid. So you must repeat both your wudoo’ and your prayer.

Du’aa’ of wudoo’

Is there any du’aa’ to be recited during wudoo’?

There is no proof that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made any du’aa’ during wudoo’ whilst washing or wiping his limbs etc. Any such du’aa’s that are known are bid’ah (innovation) and have no basis. What is known from Islamic sources is that one should say “Bismillaah il-Rahmaan il-Raheem” at the beginning, and after finishing one should recite the Shahaadatayn and say, “Allaahumma aj’alni min al-tawwaabeen waj’alni min al-mutatahhireen (O Allaah, make me one of those who repent and make me one of those who purify themselves).”

How to rinse the mouth in wudoo’

Is wudoo’ invalidated if a person rinses his mouth without putting his finger in his mouth, because the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to rinse his mouth with his finger? Is this report about him  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saheeh?

Wudoo’ is valid even if one does not insert one’s finger in one's mouth when rinsing it. The report mentioned was narrated by Imaam Ahmad with a da’eef (weak) isnaad.

Wiping over adhesive dressings (Band-Aids) when doing wudoo’

I have something like abscesses on my feet, and the treatment requires that I put an adhesive dressing over them, so that I do not get any water on them when doing wudoo’. What is the ruling in this case?

Your wudoo’ is valid whether you wipe over the dressing or let water pass over it.

Dyeing the hair – is it permissible to wipe over dyed hair in wudoo’?

I have check this topics and you have answered my question but i was looking for more information. My question if sisters put nail polish and if they have to do wadoo they have to remove and do wahoo but what about the hair dye can we do wadoo with hair dye.

It seems – and Allaah knows best –that what is put on the hair or used to make the hair stick together, such as henna and the like, does not affect wudoo’, rather it is sufficient to wipe over it. 

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: 

If a woman plasters her hair with henna or something similar, she may wipe over it, there is no need remove the substance in question, because it was proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to apply something to make his hair stick together when in ihraam.

What is put on the head and makes the hair stick together becomes part of it, which indicates that there is some lenience with regard to purification of the head.
